An illustrative Queensbridge story

Picture her.

She is nineteen. From her window on 21st Street she can see the Queensboro Bridge every morning, the same bridge this neighborhood is named for.

She is good with her hands. She is the one people call when something breaks. She has thought about HVAC. Then she looked up the price: $32,437 at one school, $18,830 at another, plus a loan she would carry into her first job.

So the idea waits. The way it has waited for a lot of people in Queensbridge.

Now picture her four months from now. She holds an EPA 608 card. An HVAC contractor has already read her resume. She has walked through three practice interviews and one real one. She has a budget for her first paycheck, and a headset on her shelf that is hers to keep.

That is the distance between the bridge and the future.

The bridge

The future

This proposal asks you to close it one hundred times.

The question Queensbridge asked

“

What are they going to do for the community? Are they going to guarantee us employment opportunities?

April Simpson, then president of the Queensbridge Tenants Association · November 2018

Next door, promised

$100,000+

salaries for up to 25,000 new jobs

vs.

Queensbridge, 2018

$15,843

median household income · nearly 60% of households on SNAP

In February 2019 Amazon withdrew. The jobs went elsewhere. The question stayed.

Our answer

We will not wait for a company to decide whether Queensbridge gets a seat at the table. We are building the table.

No honest program can promise every resident a job. This one promises what makes them first in line: a funded seat, a recognized credential, interview practice, a financial plan, and employers in the room before graduation.

Long Island City’s buildings still need people to heat, cool, wire, staff and protect them. Those careers are the five this initiative trains for.

Who leads

The R.A.R.E. Foundation answers the question.

This neighborhood gave the world Nas, Mobb Deep, NBA champion Metta World Peace, filmmaker Julie Dash, and Keechant Sewell, New York City’s first Black woman police commissioner.

Talent was never the gap. The growth around Queensbridge never became careers for the people who live there.

Queensbridge helped change the world’s cultural landscape. Now its residents can take a fuller part in the economic landscape around them.

Questions

Before you reserve.

Straight answers about who the program serves, where each dollar goes, and how results are reported.

The founding cohort seats 100 Queensbridge residents. The R.A.R.E. Foundation runs recruitment with the Queensbridge Tenants Association and resident leaders, holds information sessions, and seats residents on an advisory circle. Some credentials have their own rules: the FAA Part 107 certificate requires age 16+, and EMT certification is for adults.

Nothing. Full-ride tuition at National Career Institute, a Meta Quest 3 headset they keep, exam fees and public-transportation fares to the St. John’s hub and to NCI are all covered.

One resident, start to finish: $3,000 NCI tuition, a $1,250 KreditVerse technology fee (headset, simulations, HoloTutor, FinLit, soft skills, data), $950 direct resident support for fares and exam fees, $650 Foundation program operations, and $150 contingency.

Gifts go to Recovery Education Foundation, a 501(c)(3) public charity (EIN 81-1048028), doing business as The R.A.R.E. Foundation, and are tax-deductible as allowed by law. Every gift is held by the Foundation and restricted to this cohort.

January 11 to May 28, 2027: enroll, explore all five careers in VR, train, prepare, certify and graduate on campus at St. John’s. Commitments by December 2026 seat the founding cohort.

No honest program can promise every resident a job. This one promises what makes them first in line: a funded seat, a recognized credential, interview practice, a financial plan, and employers in the room before graduation.

The Foundation verifies credentials, employment and earnings with consent, and publishes outcome reports at Month 4 and at 90, 180 and 365 days. A Queensbridge resident advisory circle reviews progress and outcomes.

The Foundation board approves the KreditVerse service agreement, and Quincy Luzunaris recuses as a director of both organizations. The fee is benchmarked to fair market value and paid only on delivered milestones: 50% at headset onboarding, 25% at the Month 2 progress report, and 25% at completion with outcome data delivered.

No. Rent reporting through KreditKeys is optional and never a condition of enrollment. Rent history is verified and reported only with written consent, and any cost is disclosed in advance. The program offers education, not credit-repair services.
